Enrichment Programs

Enrichment programs are an important part of your student's education.  Many of these programs introduce topics that are not covered in the regular curriculm.  Meet the Masters, Imagination Machine and Bully Dudes are all enrichment programs that your children enjoy at LRES.  Thanks to your donations and fundraising efforts the PTA continues to be able to fund these programs.

For the love of Music!

Keep the Primary Music Program Alive at LRES!

In the history of our school, CUSD has not funded music instruction for grades K-3.  Fortunately, because of parents like you. LRES has raised enough money to pay for music all of these years. K-3 Music is funded solely from Parent Donations, so .... we are asking for a donation of $100 for each K-3 student.  But any amount is appreciated .... more or less!  If we do not raise $50,000 by May 15th we will NOT have Music next year. Please drop of your donation to the front office before May 11, 2012.

Literacy Luau

March is all about Literacy!  Literacy Luau activities will be held March 2nd – March 23rd.  We’ll begin by saying “Happy Birthday” to Dr. Seuss on March 2nd with the start of our Bookmark Design Contest.  All entries are due by March 9th.  Winning bookmark designs from each grade level will be available for purchase March 13th – 15th.

Read-a-Thon is back! Get ready to READ, READ, READ! Starting on Friday, March 9th, all classes, grades K-5, will be recording their reading minutes each day for two weeks to see who can read the most! It’s easy to do – students just need to record their daily homework reading time PLUS any additional reading minutes on the Read-a-Thon Log. If students reach the school-wide goal of 275,000 minutes over the 2 weeks of Read-a-Thon, they will earn a Hawaiian Luau Recess for each grade level!

Spring Luau Book Fair

The Book Fair is a week long event that brings the books kids love to read to our school in an atmosphere of fun! Students can choose from their favorite titles and parents can be assured that they are getting great books at great prices. Plus, LRES PTA earns Scholastic Dollars for every purchase made. Scholastic Dollars are then used to purchase more books and supplies, including Scholasitc Reading Counts, for LRES. The book fair is held in the front lobby of the public library. Don’t miss this opportunity to build your child’s library and raise funds for LRES.  Be sure to check out our fun family activities during Book Fair week.  Our PTA will be hosting:

Muffins with Mom: Wednesday, March 7th, 7:45-8:45am

Moms, start your day enjoying a cup of coffee, a muffin and a new book with your child.

Meet the Masters

Meet the Masters is a PTA funded art education program that introduces students to “Master” artists and their techniques.  Once a month students attend an “Introducing the Masters” assembly where they learn about the lives and works of the month’s artist.  Following the assembly, students participate in a class activity to create their own original artwork based on the current artist.  The instructor guides the students in an age appropriate project based on the technique of the Master Artist.  Meet the Masters is a wonderful PTA sponsored program that introduces art history, fine art, builds confidence and is lots of fun!
